Palantir’s week was not a break in the commercial story. Friday was a large day on the stock’s own tape. The shares closed Friday, 16 October 2026, at $186.03, down $14.47, or 7.22 percent, from Thursday’s $200.50. From the 9 October close of $209.05, the highest close in the file, the stretch is down 11.01 percent. Across 52 New York sessions from 19 October through 31 December, the last 90 daily log-returns put the bull at $356.01, the base at $226.75 and the bear at $167.85.
The missing fact is the clock on the new targets. Goldman Sachs, Barclays, Baird and Mizuho put twelve-month figures at $230, $265, $250 and $245. None of those is a 31 December price, and none is this bull or this bear. Nasdaq’s compiled one-year target is $221.50, which is $5.25 under the drift-only base. Friday’s log-return was -0.07491, or 1.80 sample deviations. That is a large day. It is not a new revenue guide. The 3 August outlook is still the outlook.
Key facts
- Friday 16 October 2026 official close $186.03, down $14.47, or 7.22 percent, from Thursday’s $200.50. Open $201.79, high $203.55, low $184.45, volume 33,354,880. Source: Nasdaq historical prices, file saved 19 October 2026. The last row is 16 October. A premarket sale is not a bar.

- House path from the Nasdaq closes saved 19 October 2026, not a street target. N = 52, mu = 0.0038063985, sigma = 0.0417070507. Bull $356.01, base $226.75, bear $167.85, through 31 December 2026.
What just happened, and why the obvious reading is wrong
The obvious reading is that the commercial story broke because the shares fell through $190 in a week when the street was raising targets. Two parts of that reading fail the file. No customer loss and no guide cut arrived with Friday’s close. And the day was not ordinary noise. It was 1.80 sample deviations on the last 90 daily log-returns.
The path into Friday was not a straight slide. On 8 October, the Goldman upgrade day, the close was $198.78. On 9 October it was $209.05, up 5.17 percent, the highest close in the file. The 12 October high was $212.94 and the close was $209.00. Wednesday closed at $200.97 and Thursday at $200.50. Friday did the damage.
A one-deviation band around Thursday’s $200.50 runs from $192.31 to $209.04, because exp(0.0417070507) minus 1 is 4.26 percent. Friday’s $186.03 sits $6.28 under that band. Five sessions of log-returns from 9 October are about 1.25 of a five-session deviation. The desk’s news note on the same close already logged $186.03. The 12.64 percent gap to the $212.94 high is a price fact, not evidence that US commercial revenue stopped growing.
Who is exposed
Equity holders take the first loss. Nasdaq’s summary, saved before the cash open, shows a market cap of $445,885,500,921 beside the previous close. Dividing that figure by $186.03 is about 2.397 billion shares. That is arithmetic on the summary, not a new share-count filing. On the same count, the $23.02 decline from the 9 October close is about $55.2 billion of market value.
The commercial book is the growth line the street is paying for. In the June quarter, US revenue was $1.573 billion, about 81 percent of $1.935 billion. US commercial revenue was $764 million, about 39 percent of the total and about 49 percent of the US line. The $809 million gap between those two reported figures is the government remainder. A break in commercial growth would show up in the $764 million line or in the guide above $3.424 billion. Friday printed neither. The record of the 93 percent quarter is the fundamental file. This note asks what 52 sessions of the tape imply.
Nasdaq’s quote file lists Palantir in the Nasdaq-100, so a 7.22 percent day at this market cap moves the index as well as the stock. Goldman’s $230 is 23.64 percent above $186.03, Barclays’ $265 is 42.45 percent above it, Baird’s $250 is 34.39 percent above it and Mizuho’s $245 is 31.70 percent above it. Those are twelve-month distances. The FAA note already showed the shares can rise on a contract the company did not win. A down close is not, by itself, a lost customer.
What the tape and the August release show
No new revenue figure arrived with Friday’s close. The tape and the 3 August exhibit answer a narrower question than a broken commercial story.
| Item | Obvious reading | What the record shows |
|---|---|---|
| The stretch | The commercial story broke | 9 October $209.05 to 16 October $186.03, down $23.02, or 11.01 percent. No guide change in the pages fetched |
| Friday | A small follow-through | $186.03, down 7.22 percent. Log-return -0.07491, or 1.80 sample deviations |
| The record | About 13 percent under it | High $212.94 on 12 October. Friday is 12.64 percent under that high and 11.01 percent under the $209.05 close |
| The guide | Management cut it this week | 3 August full-year revenue $8.150 billion to $8.158 billion. No October revision fetched |
| Street targets | The title bull and bear | Goldman $230, Barclays $265, Baird $250, Mizuho $245. This pair is $356.01 and $167.85 |
| Year to date | The rally is over | 2 January close $167.86 to $186.03 is up 10.82 percent. 25 June close $107.27 |
The bull line sits far above the tape because the drift is steep. From the 25 June close of $107.27 the stock is up 73.42 percent, and the 4 August close was $162.66. Much of the 90-session mean is that recovery, carried forward. It is not a desk target of $356.
What Palantir and the named analysts have said
The last full statement from the chief executive in a company document fetched here is 3 August, not this week. Alex Karp, co-founder and chief executive, said in that exhibit: “Demand for AI sovereignty has now been unleashed.” He also said: “This quarter was otherworldly: our U.S. commercial revenue grew 149% year-over-year, our overall revenue grew 93% year-over-year, and our Rule of 40 score climbed to 155%.” Those lines name a quarter that had already closed. They do not mention a share price, and they do not update the guide for October.
The questions the street wrote down are about the size of the market and the deployment model, not a contract cancelled on Friday. Gabriela Borges, the Goldman Sachs analyst, is quoted by Benzinga on 8 October: “We believe enterprises are in the early stages of applying AI to their proprietary data to amplify their existing moats.” On the forward-deployed model, TIKR’s account of the same note has her writing that it “requires tight feedback loops between field and product, which Palantir has perfected to the point of being able to automate via AI FDEs.” Chad Wahlquist, a Palantir forward deployed architect, posted those sentences that day, including: “The TAM may be setting up for another step function change in depth, because of the shift to sovereign AI, bespoke applications, and Palantir’s newer verticalization strategy.”
Benzinga says Goldman moved the shares to Buy from Neutral and that Borges reiterated $230 against Wednesday’s $194.12 close. A TrendSpider post the same morning said the target was raised to $230. The PriceTargets log shows 8 October as Neutral to Buy at $230, with no prior target on that row. A $204 prior target is not in these pages, so this note does not use it. The pages agree on Buy and on $230. They disagree on whether $230 was new.
Anthony Valentini at Barclays initiated at Overweight with a $265 target. PriceTargets dates that initiation on 8 October and again on 9 October. The Motley Fool, on 13 October, quotes him: “SpaceX and Palantir have deep competitive moats that enable unparalleled levels of growth and margins.” That sentence is not a revenue revision.
TokenPost reports that William Power at Baird raised his target to $250 from $200 on Monday 12 October, and that Gregg Moskowitz at Mizuho lifted his to $245 from $215 on Thursday 15 October and kept Outperform. Moskowitz called the channel checks “very healthy overall.” That is a Thursday sentence, not Friday’s tape. This note uses 12 October for Baird. PriceTargets shows the same row, and on that date a Phillip Securities downgrade from Strong-Buy to Hold, with no target printed. The 12 October company release set the 2 November date. It did not change the August revenue ranges.
The regulatory tension, and the multiple
The live government dispute fetched here is in London, not in the US commercial guide. On 14 October the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime and Palantir settled a High Court challenge over a blocked contract. The BBC describes a £50 million deal with the Metropolitan Police that MOPAC stopped. The decision was not reversed. The joint statement on the mayor’s site says: “MOPAC’s decision in May 2026 not to enter a UOA Contract in response to the Metropolitan Police Service’s (MPS’s) initial proposal was not based on Palantir’s values or ethics or any wider reporting about the company.” It also says Palantir is “free and welcomed” to bid when the contract is re-run.
Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, said in that statement: “London is the technology capital of Europe, and I am proud that leading software firms choose the city as their home.” The line does not restore the contract. US revenue was about 81 percent of the June quarter, so a blocked £50 million deal is small next to a guide above $8 billion. It was already public before Friday. From the 25 June close of $107.27 to $186.03 is 73.42 percent, with the August guide unchanged. Friday was large inside that path. It did not replace the guide.
Bull, base, and bear through 31 December
These three prices are not analyst targets. They are a distribution around the last 90 daily log-returns. A log-return is the natural log of one official close divided by the prior close. Mu is the average and sigma is the sample standard deviation, using n minus 1. The prior close for the first return is 9 June 2026, at $132.07. Ninety times mu equals the log of $186.03 divided by $132.07.
Mu is 0.0038063985. Sigma is 0.0417070507. N is 52, the sessions after Friday through Thursday 31 December 2026. The count starts Monday 19 October, skips weekends, and skips only Thursday 26 November and Friday 25 December. Friday 27 November and Thursday 24 December are early closes and still count. October contributes 10 sessions, November 20 and December 22. The base is the spot times exp(N times mu). The bull adds 1.5 standard deviations of the N-session window. The bear subtracts one. The drift is positive, so the bull does not need a no-drift fallback.
In steps: 52 times 0.0038063985 is 0.19793. Sigma times the square root of 52 is 0.30075. The bull’s exponent is 0.19793 plus 1.5 times 0.30075, or 0.64906. The bear’s exponent is 0.19793 minus 0.30075, or -0.10282. Applied to $186.03 and rounded to the cent, the base is $226.75, the bull is $356.01 and the bear is $167.85. The base is $40.72, or 21.89 percent, above the close. The bull is $169.98, or 91.37 percent, above it. The bear is $18.18, or 9.77 percent, below it.
| Case | Price | Versus $186.03 | What has to be true |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bull | $356.01 | Up 91.37 percent | The post-June drift holds, and the path finishes 1.5 deviations above it |
| Base | $226.75 | Up 21.89 percent | Only the drift. No new guide is required |
| Bear | $167.85 | Down 9.77 percent | Drift minus one deviation. A print under $2.160 billion is the fundamental version |
Street targets are twelve-month opinions. Barclays’ $265 is $91.01 below this bull. Goldman’s $230 is $3.25 above this base. Nasdaq’s $221.50 is $5.25 below it. The bear at $167.85 lands one cent from the 2 January close of $167.86, a rounding coincidence, not a target anyone set. Older FinanceFeeds pairs used 285 and 118, 270 and 105, 382 and 70, 245 and 98, and 148 and 108. This pair is not within $1 of any of them. N stays 52. The bull looks high because a 4.26 percent daily sigma still sits on a positive mean after the run from $132.07 on 9 June. That is not Goldman’s $230, and it is not a new guide.
What happens next
Monday 19 October is the next cash session. Nasdaq’s quote file, saved before the open, showed a premarket last sale of $185.58 at 7:13 a.m. ET, down $0.45, with the status marked Pre-Market. That print is not a close and is not a chart bar. A Monday close between $178.43 and $193.95 is inside one sample deviation of Friday. A close under $178.43 would be a fresh one-deviation down day. It would not prove a lost customer.
Results for the quarter ended 30 September are due Monday 2 November, after the US close, with a webcast at 5:00 p.m. ET. The August guide is $2.160 billion to $2.164 billion of revenue. A print inside that band leaves the commercial guide intact. A print under $2.160 billion is a miss, the fundamental version of the bear, and Friday’s close cannot establish it. The bull at $356.01 still needs the upside tail after that print. The base at $226.75 does not.
Through Thursday 31 December there are 52 sessions on this calendar. If only the drift arrives, the base is $226.75, close to Nasdaq’s $221.50 one-year figure and under every fresh street target in this note. Goldman’s $230, Baird’s $250, Mizuho’s $245 and Barclays’ $265 are not due on New Year’s Eve. A year-end close near $227 would look like the stock’s own drift. The bear at $167.85 still requires one deviation the other way. The London re-bid is a separate contract. It is not an input to N, mu or sigma.
Frequently asked questions
Is Friday’s close a break in the commercial story, or the stock’s own volatility, and where do the year-end bull and bear sit?
It is the stock’s own volatility, not a break in the commercial story. The year-end bull is $356.01, the base is $226.75 and the bear is $167.85. Friday’s log-return was 1.80 sample deviations, and no page fetched this week revised the 3 August revenue guide. The fresh street targets are twelve-month numbers from $230 to $265. They are not this bull or this bear. A commercial break would be a new company figure. Friday did not bring one.
How much did Palantir stock fall in the week to Friday 16 October?
The stretch from the 9 October close of $209.05 to the 16 October close of $186.03 is down $23.02, or 11.01 percent. Friday alone was down $14.47, or 7.22 percent, from $200.50. The session low was $184.45 and the high was $203.55. Volume was 33,354,880 shares, 18.2 percent above Nasdaq’s average of 28,216,845. The gap to the 12 October high of $212.94 is 12.64 percent.
Are those the same as Wall Street’s targets?
No. The title pair is the 90-day distribution through 31 December. Goldman Sachs is at $230, Barclays at $265, Baird at $250 and Mizuho at $245, all twelve-month opinions that predate Friday’s full decline. Nasdaq’s one-year target is $221.50, $5.25 under this base. This bull is $91.01 above the $265 street high.
When does Palantir report, and what is the guide?
Palantir said on 12 October that third-quarter results will be released Monday 2 November 2026, after the US close, with a webcast at 5:00 p.m. ET. The 3 August guide for that quarter is revenue of $2.160 billion to $2.164 billion and adjusted income from operations of $1.292 billion to $1.296 billion. Full-year revenue guidance is $8.150 billion to $8.158 billion. US commercial revenue guidance is in excess of $3.424 billion. No October page fetched here changes those ranges.
What did Alex Karp and the analysts say about the selloff?
Karp’s fetched comments are from 3 August, not from Friday. He said demand for AI sovereignty had been unleashed, and he called the quarter otherworldly, with US commercial revenue up 149 percent. On 8 October, Gabriela Borges said enterprises are early in applying AI to their own data. Anthony Valentini cited deep competitive moats. Moskowitz’s “very healthy” checks are dated 15 October. None of those sentences is an October revenue guide.
